Beauty purchases on Black Friday come down to what is on the label and whether the item is genuine. Read the ingredients and shelf-life marking on skincare, check the plug and heat settings on hair tools, and buy from sellers you trust. Opened products are often hard to return, so read the terms first.
This department covers two kinds of purchase. The skincare sets guide explains how to match a set to your skin and read the label. The hair tools guide covers dryers, straighteners and multi-stylers, with the details that separate them.
Skincare labels carry more useful information than most shoppers expect. Business Companion’s guidance for England, Scotland and Wales says ingredients run in descending order of weight, and the label shows either a best-before date or a symbol for the months of use after opening. A UK responsible person’s name and address should also appear on the packaging.
Hair tools need a different kind of check, because they get hot and plug into the mains. A UK recall in March 2025 covered two hair straighteners whose plug, fuse and cable were considered counterfeit, with a risk of fire. A clear photo of the plug and rating label is a fair thing to ask for on any listing.
Returns link the two. Citizens Advice says a broken hygiene seal can remove the 14-day cooling-off right on online purchases, and items from private individuals are not covered. Keep gifts sealed until you know they suit the person.
