Clothing buys go wrong on fit and fabric, not on style. Before adding anything to your cart, check the size chart against your own measurements, read the fabric content and care label, and look at the return policy. Do that and a jacket, jeans or dress is far less likely to come back.

What the clothing department covers

This department gathers everyday wardrobe items: denim, tops, dresses, knitwear, outerwear and layering pieces for women, men and kids. Each page below focuses on one product type, so the advice is specific to how that garment fits and wears. Start with jeans if you want help with rise, fit names and stretch, or go to women’s clothing for sizing charts, fabric content and care labels.

The checks that apply to every garment

Sizing is the biggest source of returns. Brands cut the same labeled size differently, so measure a garment you already like, lay it flat, and compare it with the measurements in the listing. If a listing only gives a size tag, ask the seller for chest, waist, hip or inseam measurements before you buy.

Fabric tells you how a piece will behave. Cotton breathes and softens with washing, wool and wool blends hold warmth, and polyester and nylon resist wrinkles and dry quickly. Stretch fibers such as elastane add comfort but can lose shape over time. The care label tells you whether the item needs dry cleaning, which adds cost and effort after you buy.

Condition matters most when you shop secondhand or from marketplace sellers. Look for clear photos of the fabric up close, the seams, the zippers and any tags. A listing that says new with tags should show the tags. A seller with solid feedback and a clear return policy is a safer choice than one who sells as-is.

Shop with a plan

Decide what the garment has to do before you browse. A winter coat needs warmth and weather resistance; a pair of work trousers needs durability and a comfortable waist. Write down your measurements and the return window for each seller, then compare listings against that list instead of against a headline.

Browse the live listings on each page, compare fit details side by side, and keep the item that matches your measurements, not the one with the loudest photo.
